The purpose of jib cranes is to make lifts easier and safer. They will speed up processes and allow lots of the various parts of lifting to become more automated, meaning there is more room to improve overall process. When used correctly and efficiency is maximised, a jib crane can make a very big difference and can prove to be useful for a whole host of reasons, in a wide range of environments. These might include industrial settings, manufacturing, distribution, and many other functions as well.
These are the key purposes of jib cranes, and where they can add the most value for people:
- Flexibility. Jibs are one of the most flexible types of lifting equipment available. They can be mounted in different ways and they can be used for travel as well as for vertical lifting processes. If lifting is a key part of an organisation’s remit and a jib crane would be useful to have, then there will be one that will be suitable for the environment. If the environment is challenging in any way, then a bespoke jib crane may be the best option so that it can be made specifically for use in that setting.
- Lifting different capacities. Jib cranes are generally regarded as lightweight lifting systems but they can easily accommodate loads of up to 5,000kg, or 5 Tonnes. Some cranes may have a higher or lower lifting capacity so this should always be confirmed before using a jib crane.
- Offering different mounting options. Jib cranes can either be mounted to a stand or mounted to the wall to give additional flexibility. This means they can work in low headroom spaces and in other areas where space might be limited. A jib crane can usually be accommodated in most environments if it is bespoke and is assembled around that particular space.
- Safety. As with any lifting equipment or crane, a jib crane is used first and foremost with safety in mind and making lifting operations safer for everyone in the vicinity, as well as operators and other workers. There are, of course, strict safety measures that will need to be put in place, but when these are followed and cranes are operated by competent people, then jib cranes can lead to a far greater degree of safety overall.
- Efficiency. A jib crane is designed to make operations more efficient through faster, targeted lifting. Loads can be lifted vertically as well as moved through a lateral arch if the jib itself can move in this way. This makes for a greater deal of flexibility which in turn makes the lifting processes more efficient.
- Cost saving. When jib cranes can be used to manage lifting, this means that fewer people can manage the lift and loads can be lifted and transported faster. This means there is a great deal of cost saving potential, and staff can be deployed to focus on other processes, and more can be done in a shorter space of time.
